ALL ABOUT BIDETS GUIDEBOOK
With reference to the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) circular to Professional Institutions on 1 Sep 2021, the existing public toilet requirements in the Code of Practice on Environmental Health (COPEH) have been updated to enhance public health resilience. New public toilets or existing public toilets undergoing A&A works requiring approval from BCA and other technical agencies (e.g. NEA, PUB) for their building plan submissions are required to adhere to the new requirements with effect from 1 March 2022.
In particular, COPEH (2020)’s requirement for a water tap point with spring loaded nozzle within one cubicle of the toilet was amended in COPEH (2021), to now require a water closet with a bidet fixture within at least one cubicle of the toilet. The shift from water tap point with spring loaded nozzle to bidet fixtures will reduce wetness in toilet cubicles and contribute to cleaner toilets for easier maintenance.
